Yale’s Redpath Speakers Program and the Yale Club of Orange County invite you to attend a talk in Newport Beach on January 9 about galaxies, black holes, and astrophysics, oh my!
When: Thurs., January 9, 6:00-8:00pm
Where: Newport Harbor Yacht Club | 720 W Bay Ave, Newport Beach, CA 92661
What: The Sky Is for Everyone, a talk by Professor Meg Urry. Prof. Urry will describe recent results from the James Webb Space Telescope that show an excess of compact galaxies less than 1 billion years after the Big Bang. She will explain the lively debate about whether these objects host massive black holes in their first growth spurt. She will then talk about why there are still too few women in science and how she became an astrophysicist at a time when there were very few role models. There will be plenty of time for Q&A—on these topics or anything else about astrophysics or being an outsider in science.
Cost: $30/person. Your ticket includes heavy apps and non-alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic beverages available for purchase.
Parking: Parking will be available to attendees at no charge.
