Alumni Notes & Non-Yale Events:
Announcement from New Blue: Opportunity to Book Us During Our Winter Tour
When: Thursday December 31st, 2009 through Saturday January 9th, 2010
Where: Los Angeles and surrounding area
The New Blue was founded in 1969, the same year that Yale first admitted undergraduate women, making us not only Yale’s oldest all-female a cappella group, but also its oldest women’s organization of any kind. A symbol of women’s accomplishments at Yale, the New Blue is proud to be celebrating its 40th year.
Over the last few years, the group has produced six CDs and garnered awards from the Contemporary A Cappella Society for Best Arrangement and Best Female Collegiate Album. In September, the New Blue released its 40th anniversary CD, “Blueprint.” The New Blue has toured all over the U.S. and the world and loves performing for a wide variety of events, ranging from school assemblies to corporate functions, from poolside gatherings to wedding receptions. The New Blue consistently engages audiences with its professional poise and inspiring presence.
If you would like to add the voices of the New Blue to your event or bring us in to perform for your group, we would love the opportunity to share our music with you. The New Blue’s arrangements have a distinctive warm and rich sound not found in most all-female groups, and we pride ourselves on singing from a repertoire that people of all ages and from all backgrounds can enjoy.
We will be in the Los Angeles area from December 31st, 2009 until January 9th, 2010 and we would love to perform for you. Our winter tour manager is Emily Cooley, who you can contact via email (emily.cooley@yale.edu) or by telephone at 262-347-7786.
The New Blue is not funded by Yale University. It is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, tax-exempt organization. All performance fees are used to maintain the group and are tax-deductible. The New Blue can be found online at www.yale.edu/newblue.
Announcement from the Baker’s Dozen: Private Concert Opportunity
When: Saturday, January 2nd, through Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Where: TBD
What: Greetings and allow me to introduce myself as the Winter Tour Manager of The Baker’s Dozen of Yale University, one of the nation’s oldest and finest collegiate men’s a cappella groups. Our ensemble, founded in 1947 and comprised of nineteen male undergraduates, performs a variety of arrangements ranging from traditional ballads to jazz, rock, and contemporary hits. A working repertoire of nearly forty songs and skits combined with a strong sense of showmanship allows us to perform in virtually any setting, be it a short set at a private party, a mid-size concert at a school, or a full-scale formal concert in black tie. In a typical year, The Baker’s Dozen performs at numerous residences, clubs, resorts, and schools throughout the country. The group has also entertained prestigious audiences at venues such as the White House, the United Nations, and celebrities’ parties in Hollywood.
We will be passing through California this winter, and would love the opportunity to perform for you. We will be in your area from Saturday, January 2nd, through Thursday, January 7th. Typically, we charge $1000 for a 45-minute set, but fees can vary depending on concert length and venue. If you are interested in booking the group or would like more information, including a copy of our latest CD, please contact me via e-mail at travis.gidado@yale.edu or by telephone at 904-655-3218.
— Contact webmaster and Yale Club VP Blair Golson at bbg3[at]aya.yale.edu to submit a free listing. (Please follow the ‘when’ & ‘where’ formatting of the above events. Or else face his wrath.)
