Calling all Yale Alums in the LA and OC areas to once again make Feb Club LA the best attended, coolest, hippest, liveliest and most fun bash of the entire Feb Club circuit.  Feb Club in Los Angeles will take place on Saturday, February 6th from 7:30PM to closing at the Crescent Hotel in Beverly Hills (310-247-0505).  Located in the heart of Beverly Hills, the Crescent was originally built in 1926 for silent film stars and has now been transformed with an intimate lounge and a unique indoor-outdoor fireplace, complemented by amazing food served up by the Chic restaurant Boé.  The hotel is located at 403 North Crescent Drive at Brighton Way in the center of Beverly Hills, around the corner from Rodeo Drive.

Parking

Valet parking is available at the hotel for $7 when validated at the bar/restaurant.  Otherwise, there is a public parking garage further down Crescent Drive between Brighton Way and Clifton Way for $3-6. You may also find street parking.

Cover

There will be a $15 entry fee to cover: (1) all beer for the Tang Competition, (2) all Mory’s Cups, and (3) finger food for grazing (pizza slices, vegetable tray, cheese tray, etc.).  Guests are responsible for their own bar/food tab beyond the items just mentioned.  Commemorative Feb Club glasses (highly suitable for Tanging) will be provided to the first 200 guests and will be refilled with beer from the Tang room at no charge.

Preferred Hotel Rate

For those who plan to stay in the area (or imbibe beyond breathalyzer limits), we have secured a preferred rate of $185 at the hotel. Please make reservations directly with the hotel at 310-247-0505 and ask for the Yale Feb Club rate.  Rooms will be apportioned on a first come, first served basis and may not be available on the night of the event without a prior reservation.  Valet parking overnight costs $28, or you can self park at a nearby garage (usually $3 after 6 p.m., but a wide range of hours – some open 24 hours, some close at midnight, some close at 9:00 pm – check the signs!).

LA Feb Club organizers are:  Chris Hill (Class of 1999), Lisa Kant
(Class of 2006) and Tim Pirrung (Class of 1976).

RSVP: Advanced Registration is now closed but we will be accepting walk-ins at the door so please come and celebrate with us! Cash Only!

We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Alumni Notes & Non-Yale Events:

Announcement from New Blue: Opportunity to Book Us During Our Winter Tour

When: Thursday December 31st, 2009 through Saturday January 9th, 2010

Where: Los Angeles and surrounding area

The New Blue was founded in 1969, the same year that Yale first admitted undergraduate women, making us not only Yale’s oldest all-female a cappella group, but also its oldest women’s organization of any kind. A symbol of women’s accomplishments at Yale, the New Blue is proud to be celebrating its 40th year.

Over the last few years, the group has produced six CDs and garnered awards from the Contemporary A Cappella Society for Best Arrangement and Best Female Collegiate Album. In September, the New Blue released its 40th anniversary CD, “Blueprint.” The New Blue has toured all over the U.S. and the world and loves performing for a wide variety of events, ranging from school assemblies to corporate functions, from poolside gatherings to wedding receptions. The New Blue consistently engages audiences with its professional poise and inspiring presence.

If you would like to add the voices of the New Blue to your event or bring us in to perform for your group, we would love the opportunity to share our music with you. The New Blue’s arrangements have a distinctive warm and rich sound not found in most all-female groups, and we pride ourselves on singing from a repertoire that people of all ages and from all backgrounds can enjoy.

We will be in the Los Angeles area from December 31st, 2009 until January 9th, 2010 and we would love to perform for you. Our winter tour manager is Emily Cooley, who you can contact via email (emily.cooley@yale.edu) or by telephone at 262-347-7786.

The New Blue is not funded by Yale University. It is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, tax-exempt organization. All performance fees are used to maintain the group and are tax-deductible. The New Blue can be found online at www.yale.edu/newblue.

Announcement from the Baker’s Dozen: Private Concert Opportunity

When: Saturday, January 2nd, through Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Where: TBD

What: Greetings and allow me to introduce myself as the Winter Tour Manager of The Baker’s Dozen of Yale University, one of the nation’s oldest and finest collegiate men’s a cappella groups.  Our ensemble, founded in 1947 and comprised of nineteen male undergraduates, performs a variety of arrangements ranging from traditional ballads to jazz, rock, and contemporary hits.  A working repertoire of nearly forty songs and skits combined with a strong sense of showmanship allows us to perform in virtually any setting, be it a short set at a private party, a mid-size concert at a school, or a full-scale formal concert in black tie.  In a typical year, The Baker’s Dozen performs at numerous residences, clubs, resorts, and schools throughout the country.  The group has also entertained prestigious audiences at venues such as the White House, the United Nations, and celebrities’ parties in Hollywood.

We will be passing through California this winter, and would love the opportunity to perform for you. We will be in your area from Saturday, January 2nd, through Thursday, January 7th. Typically, we charge $1000 for a 45-minute set, but fees can vary depending on concert length and venue. If you are interested in booking the group or would like more information, including a copy of our latest CD, please contact me via e-mail at travis.gidado@yale.edu or by telephone at 904-655-3218.

Contact webmaster and Yale Club VP Blair Golson at bbg3[at]aya.yale.edu to submit a free listing. (Please follow the ‘when’ & ‘where’ formatting of the above events. Or else face his wrath.)
